About the MN National Guard/Norwegian Home Guard Exchange

The special bond between the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard has its roots in World War II, when many Norwegian-American soldiers  went to Norway to assist in the resistance against occupying Nazi forces..[/quote]

Since 1974, the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard have conducted annual Troop Reciprocal Exchange with 100 MN National Guard soldiers training at Vaernes Training Facility outside Trondheim in Norway. At the same time, 100 soldiers form the Norwegian Home Guard train at Camp Ripley with soldiers from the MN National Guard

This troop exchange is the longest-running military exchange partnership between the two nations. The yearly exchange promotes good will and sharpens military readiness between the nations as well as providing opportunities for cultural understanding among its participants.
